Advanced File Management: Moving, Searching, and Emptying Trash

Mastering File Management in cPanel To maintain a fast and organized hosting environment at Thamara , you need to know how to efficiently move files, locate them, and permanently free up disk space.

1. Moving Files vs. Copying: Moving files is faster and doesn't consume extra disk space.

  • Inside File Manager, select the file or folder.

  • Click the Move icon from the top toolbar.

  • Enter the destination path (e.g., /public_html/new-folder) and click Move File(s).

2. Using the Search Function: Can't find a specific file? Use the built-in search tool.

  • In the top-right corner of File Manager, locate the search bar.

  • Select the directory you want to search in (Current Directory or All Your Files).

  • Type the file name or extension (e.g., config.php or .pdf) and click Go.

3. Emptying the Trash to Free Up Space: When you delete files in cPanel, they are often moved to a "Trash" folder and still count toward your disk quota.

  • In File Manager, click the View Trash button in the top toolbar.

  • To permanently delete everything, click Empty Trash.

  • To restore a specific file, select it and click Restore.
