Summary:
Over time, MySQL databases can accumulate "overhead" or experience minor structural errors due to frequent data entries and deletions. Repairing fixes corrupted tables, while Optimizing reorganizes the data to reduce storage size and improve website loading speed. Performing this maintenance ensures your site remains healthy and responsive.
Steps to Repair/Optimize:
Log in to your cPanel account.
Navigate to the Databases section and click on MySQL Databases.
Scroll down to the Modify Databases section.
To Repair:
Under "Repair Database," select the database you want to fix from the dropdown menu.
Click the Repair Database button.
To Optimize:
Under "Check Database," select your database and click Check Database first to see if it needs optimization.
If needed, return and use the Optimize feature (if available in your version) or use the Repair function which often includes basic optimization.
Tip for Thamara Users:
We recommend performing a database optimization at least once a month, especially if you run a high-traffic WordPress site or an e-commerce store. This keeps your database queries fast and prevents common "Database Connection Errors."
