How to Restore a MySQL Database from a Backup File

Summary:

Restoring a database is the process of uploading a previously saved .sql file to your server to replace the current data or recover lost information. This is particularly useful at Thamara when you want to revert your website to a previous state after a failed update or an accidental deletion of data.

Steps to Restore:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.

  2. In the Files section, click on the Backup icon.

  3. Look for the section titled Restore a MySQL Database Backup.

  4. Click the Choose File (or Browse) button to select the .sql Backup file from your computer.

  5. Once selected, click the Upload button.

  6. The system will process the file, and a success message will appear once the database has been fully restored.

Tip for Thamara Users:

Before restoring a database, we recommend creating a new backup of your current database even if it is faulty. Also, ensure that the database name in your backup file matches the name of the database already created in cPanel to avoid restoration errors.
